  3. Cyrus Lakdawala, First Steps: Fundamental Endings
    20,95 €
    Inkl. 7% MwSt., zzgl. Versandkosten

    Lieferzeit: 2-3 Tage

Viele Spieler konzentrieren sich auf das Studium von Eröffnungsvarianten. Das Endspiel wird dabei gerne vernachlässigt.

Many players, of all levels, use their chess study time to concentrate almost exclusively on the openings.

Very few players spend much time at all studying endgames and this is almost certainly a mistake. Making a poor move in the opening might leave you with a slightly uncomfortable position. Making a poor move in the endgame can easily transform a win into a draw or even a loss.

If you want to make any sort of serious progress at chess it is vital to understand fundamental endgame play. Having an instinctive understanding of which positions are winning, drawing and losing is essential as it enables you to plan your endgame strategies with great confidence, knowing that you are heading for positions that are favourable to you. In this book, Cyrus Lakdawala analyses all the fundamental endgame positions and carefully explains the methods needed to win the favourable ones and draw the unfavourable ones.

  4. Cyrus Lakdawala, Keaton Kiewra opening repertoire ...c6 Playing the Caro-Kann and Slav as Black
    23,95 €
    Inkl. 7% MwSt., zzgl. Versandkosten

    Lieferzeit: 2-3 Tage

This book provides a rock solid opening repertoire for Black, using systems based on the move ...c6. The backbone of this repertoire is the Caro-Kann versus 1 e4 and the Semi-Slav (via a Slav move order) versus 1 d4. In general these systems aim to neutralise White’s early initiative.

They aim for success by the gradual accumulation of small advantages, rather than by emerging victorious from an early tactical melee (which is rather problematic with the black pieces at the best of times).

The book is co-authored by Cyrus Lakdawala and Keaton Kiewra and takes a teacher/student format. The “student” Keaton Kiewra is a very strong international master with two grandmaster norms.

He normally specialises in razor-sharp defences such as the Sicilian Dragon and King’s Indian. Now he wants to broaden his style and develop his skills at handling more sedate positions. His “teacher” is Cyrus Lakdawala, an extremely experienced player, coach and author, who guides Keaton along the learning path.

THE MOST IMPORTANT ENDGAME BOOK EVER PUBLISHED

Welcome to a new type of endgame book. A book that includes...

    • The most common endgames you will ever encounter.
    • Examinations of material balances you will reach in almost half of your games.
    • Over 500 pages of grandmaster advice and analysis, assisted by the latest computer software.

Forget those books which just recycle established theory. Forget those books which concentrate on fantastical studies. Grandmaster and endgame expert Glenn Flear has created an in-depth book of all endgames which feature either two pieces for each side, or two pieces against one - an essential area of the game that has never before been comprehensively covered in one volume.

Why is this so important? Because these situations arise incredibly frequently in practical play. These are the endgames that matter. If you can handle such endgames well, your results will improve. This book shows you how.

  9. Timothy Taylor, slay the Spanish !

    Regulärer Preis: 24,95 €

    Special Price 20,95 €

    Lieferzeit: 2-3 Tage

Former US Open Champion Timothy Taylor presents a repertoire for Black against the universally popular Spanish Opening (Ruy Lopez).

The backbone of Black's repertoire is based on the Modern Steinitz Defence, which has justifiably earned a reputation as an important alternative to the main lines. The Modern Steinitz may lead to razor-sharp gambits, such as the Siesta Variation, where just one slip by either player could prove to be fatal. But perhaps the main attraction of the Modern Steinitz is its flexibility, as Black can also choose to play in a more positional and solid manner.

Using illustrative games and drawing on his own experiences with the opening,  Taylor examines in depth all the critical main lines, as well as what to do if White avoids them.

Read this book and get ready to slay the Spanish!

    >> A repertoire for Black against the Ruy Lopez

    >> Up-to-date theory on the critical lines

  10. How to Beat the Sicilian Defence: An Anti-Sicilian Repertoire for White
    19,95 €
    Inkl. 7% MwSt., zzgl. Versandkosten

    Lieferzeit: 2-3 Tage

In this book, Gawain Jones confronts the challenge of meeting the Sicilian head on. He has constructed a comprehensive Anti-Sicilian repertoire for White, which is based on lines that are successfully employed at grandmaster level.

These are sound, reliable options for White, but don't be fooled - they also contain more than a drop of poison. Variations covered include the popular King's Indian Attack, various Bb5 systems and weapons against Black's offbeat tries.

The Sicilian Defence is by far the most popular chess opening. If you play 1 e4 as White, on average you are likely to meet the Sicilian in virtually every other game! You need to be prepared to face the Sicilian at all times, and a ready-to-use repertoire against it is an indispensible weapon.
